Haimendorf

Professor Christopher von Fürer-Haimendorf (1909 – 1995) was from Austria. He spent 40 years of his life in the hills and forests of India and Nepal working for people like us.

He was amongst us from 1941-1943 in the village of Marlawai. Then in order to develop the Gondi language, he started schools. And he wrote books about our rituals and customs. His wife’s name was Elizabeth. Until 1989 that sir often used to visit Marlawai. After their death, in order to remember them, every year on January 11th, many of our Gonds continue to pay homage to them at their statues with drums and musical fanfare.
